Ensimmäinen sivu on viimein valmis. Nyt pistoja on tehty 6 000 eli 2,49 % koko työstä.
Vielä on pitkä matka jäljellä. En edelleenkään saa tehtyä kuin noin 200 pistoa päivässä. Pitäisi yrittää nostaa se vähintään 300 pistoon.

The first page is finally done. Now I have made 6 000 stitches, that is 2,49% of the entire pattern. There's still a long way to go. I still can't manage to do more than 200 stitches a day. I'll have to try to raise it to 300.

Christmas Presence 4. viikko / week 4

Q-snap kehys saapui alkuviikosta ja olen nyt käyttänyt sitä. Pidän siitä kyllä enemmän kuin aiemmin käyttämästäni puukehyksestä. Se on pienempi ja kevyempi, ja kankaan saa siihen tiukaksi myös sivuista. Tuo tilaamani suojakangas on muuten hyvä, mutta tässä työssäni on kangasta niin paljon, ettei se tahdo mahtua tuon alle kokonaan.

The Q-snap frame arrived earlier this week and I have been using it since. I like it more than the wooden scroll frame. It's smaller, lighter and it keeps also the sides of the the fabric tight. The fabric cover is very practical except that the stitching fabric piece is so large, it doesn't fit inside the cover completely.

Olen kyllä ihan hirveän hidas. En saa tehtyä päivässä juuri enempää kuin 200 pistoa. Ei siinä muuten mitään, mutta kun tällä vauhdilla tämän työn valmiiksi saaminen kestää vielä yli kolme vuotta. Alla olevassa kuvassa pistoja tehty 4 500 eli 1,87%.

I'm so terribly slow. I can't manage much more than 200 stitches a day. At this rate it will take me over three years to finish this piece. In this picture there are 4 500 stitches, that is 1,87%.

 Heaven and Earth Designsilla oli tässä 35% alennus kaikista malleista, joten ostin sitten yhden minimallin. Se on Marianne Broomen Mini Sunflowers. Vaikka sitä tuolla sivustolla sanotaankin miniksi, niin on siinä silti 200 x 158 pistoa. Yhteensä siis 31 600.

Heaven and Earth Designs had a sale for 35% off of all patterns, so I bought one mini stitch pattern: It's Mini Sunflowers by Marianne Broome. Even though HAED calls it a mini, it still has 200 x 158 stitches, altogether 31 600.

Christmas Presence 3. viikko / week 3

Päätin hankkia itselleni Q-snap -kirjontakehyksen tätä ja myöhempiä isoja projekteja varten. Kyselin Facebookin Heaven and Earth Designs Group -ryhmässä kokemuksia niistä ja vastausten perusteella tulin siihen tulokseen, että paras koko voisi olla 11 x 17 tuumaa eli 28 x 43 senttiä. Ikävä kyllä en löytänyt tuota kokoa myynnissä Suomessa, joten tilasin sen ja sen ympärille tulevan kirjontakangasta suojaavan kangassuojan Englannista Cross Stitch Heaven -verkkokaupasta. Nyt vain odotellaan paketin saapumista.

I have decided to buy myself a Q-snap frame for this project, and other large projects in the future. I asked in Facebook's Heaven and Earth Designs Group #experiences. After reading the answers I came to the conclusion that the best size might be 11 x 17 inches (28 x 43 cm). Unfortunately I couldn't find that size n Finland so I ordered it and a fabric cover for it from Cross Stitch Heaven web store in England. Now I'm waiting for the package to arrive.

Olen onnistunut muuten jo saamaan aikaiseksi kolme virhettä tässä työssä. Yhden niistä voi korjata. Siitä puuttuu vain puolet pistosta. Kahta muuta en voi korjata, koska pistojen purkaminen on tässä työssä käytännössä mahdotonta. Nyt siis minulla on kahdessa kohdassa vääränväriset pistot. Ei niitä tosin onneksi huomaa. Ne ovat kohdissa, joissa on paljon tummaa väriä.

By the way, I have managed to make three mistakes already in this piece. One of them I can fix. It's just missing one half of the cross stitch. The other two I unfortunately cannot fix, because it's virtually impossible to unravel the stitches. Now there are two places where I have used wrong thread. Luckily, you can't really see them. They are in places which are really dark coloured.

Nalle Puh - Winnie the Pooh

Tässä Nalle Puh -ristipistotyö, joka vaatii vielä lankojen päättelyä ja kehystyksen. Ostin tämän ristipistopakkauksen Ateljé Margarethasta monta vuotta sitten. Se on ollut valmiinakin jo varmaan vuoden, mutta vielä pitäisi ne päättelyt tehdä loppuun. Tämä on pistelty 14 count aidakankaalle.

Here's a Winnie the Pooh cross-stitch project that still needs to be framed and many of the threads need to secured. I bought this kit many years ago and finished it about a year ago, but I still need to do those things. The fabric is 14 count aida.

Mielenkiintoinen juttu: Tuota DMC-lankaa, jolla Puh on pistelty, ei voi ostaa mistään. Se on värjätty erikseen Designer Stitches -firmaa varten.

Interesting fact: The DMC floss color that Winnie is made with is exclusive to Designer Stitches. It cannot be bought separately.

Christmas Presence 2. viikko / week 2

Tämän verran olen nyt viikossa saanut tehtyä lisää. Hidasta on. Tämä ensimmäinen sivu on melkoista sillisalaattia. Onneksi joissain tulevissa sivuissa on kohtia, joissa samaa väriä käytetään paljon. Luulisi niiden sujuvan nopeammin.

Here's how much progress I have made in one week. It's going slowly. This first page is filled with confetti stitching. Luckily some of the other pages have sections where one colour is used a lot. Stitching those should be faster.

Palasin itse asiassa sittenkin kirjontakehyksen käyttöön ja vaihdoin myös pistelytapaani, kaikki kiitos videon, jonka linkki löytyy tuosta alta. Viimeinkin siis löysin itselleni sopivan "parking"-tyylin. En tiedä, mitä tuo on suomeksi. Siinä siis lanka jätetään roikkumaan kohtaan, johon seuraava sen värinen pisto tulisi. Kirjon siis nyt 10 x 10 ruutua kerrallaan, kun aiemmin kirjoin kerralla 20 ruutua x yhden sivun leveys.

I actually returned to my embroidery frame and I also changed the way I stitch. It's all thanks to the video below. I finally found a parking style that fits me. Now I stitch 10 x 10 grid at a time. Previously I stitched 20 x the width of the page.

Valtava HAED-projekti - Enormous HAED project

Ostin viisi vuotta sitten Heaven and Earth Designsilta (HAED) kirjontamallin. Kyseessä on Myles Pinkneyn Christmas Presence. Mallin koko on 450 x 535 pistoa. Yhteensä pistoja on siis 240 750. Five years ago I bought a cross-stitch pattern from Heaven and Earth Designsilta (HAED). It's Myles Pinkney's Christmas Precence. It has 450 x 535 stitches, 240 750 altogether. Not a small task. There are also 90 different floss colors. You can see a picture of it in the link above.

Sain viimein joskus pari vuotta sitten ostettua siihen kankaan, puuttuvat langat ja kirjontakehyksen. Kankaaksi valitsin 28 count Luganan, jotta työn lopullisesta koosta tulisi mahdollisimman pieni. Kirjon sitä yhdellä säikeellä yhden kankaan langan yli.

A couple of years ago I finally bought the fabric, missing floss and a stitching frame. The fabric I chose to use is 28 count Lugana, so as to make the finished piece as small as possible. I'm working one strand of floss over one thread of fabric.

Tulin siihen tulokseen, että kirjontakehys ei kuitenkaan sovi minulle. Minun on nähtävä, mitä kankaan takanakin tapahtuu, tai langat ovat ihan solmussa. Työn kääntely ei tosin ole helppoa niin ison kankaan kanssa.

I have come to the conclusion that the frame does not work for me. I have see what's going on behind the fabric as well. Otherwise the floss get tangled.

Aloitin kirjonnan silloin pari vuotta sitten. En päässyt juuri alkua pidemmälle, kun tuli pitkä tauko. Nyt vasta olen alkanut jatkamaan sitä. Ajattelin tänne laittaa kuvia edistymisestäni vaikka viikon tai kahden välein, niin ehkä saan tehtyäkin sitä.

Even though I started to work on this a couple of years ago, I didn't get very far. Only just now I have started to work on it again. I thought I could post pictures of my progress here every week or every couple of weeks. Maybe that way I'll finally be able to make some real progress.

Karvinen-magneetit - Garfield magnets

Tämä blogi edistyy kyllä hyyyvin hitaasti, koska olen lähinnä keskittynyt nukkekotiblogiini. Ajattelin kuitenkin kirjoitella tännekin silloin tällöin. Itse asiassa nämä kaksi blogia risteävät toisiaan. Teen nimittäin nukkekotiin virkkaus- ja kirjontajuttuja. Täytyy puhua kirjonnasta, koska niin tiheille kankaille ei voi tehdä sanan varsinaisessa merkityksessä ristipistoja, vain puolikkaita sellaisia. Olen siis käyttänyt niissä toistaiseksi 40 count silk gauze-kangasta. Kohtapuoliin on edessä 60 count. Hui! Mutta sitten tähän asiaan. Tähän blogiin kirjoitan ainakin toistaiseksi vain töistä, jotka eivät ole nukkekotikoossa.

I haven't written anything in here for a long time because I have concentrated on my dolls' house blog. Now I thought I would continue this blog as well. Actually the two blogs deal partly with same issues because I also embroider and crochet for my dolls' house. For those embroidery projects I have so far used 40 count silk gauze and I'm going to start a project on 60 count soon. Eek! On this blog I will only write about projects that are not miniatures.

Nämä kaksi jääkaappimagneettia tein jo pari vuotta sitten. Näitä malleja ei ilmeisesti voi enää ostaa, joten "kröhöm" etsin ne internetistä. Kirjoin mallit plastic canvasille eli perforoidulle muoville. Sitten liimasin kummankin taakse kaksi pyöreää magneettia. Nyt ne koristavat meidän jääkaappia.

I made these two fridge magnets a couple of years ago. These patterns are apparently not available for purchase anymore so I looked them up on the Internet. I used plastic canvas and after the work was done I glued two magnets on the backside of each piece. Now they are decorating our refrigerator.
