Mini Yours Faithfully 9. viikko / week 9

Olen taas pistellyt kumpaakin HAED-työtäni, Mini Yours Faithfullya ja Christmas Presencea. Olen onnistunut tekemään keskimäärin 350 pistoa päivässä. Toivottavasti tahti pysyy yllä.

I have again stitched both of my HAED pieces, Mini Yours Faithfully and Christmas Presence. I have still managed to stitch about 350 stitches a day on average. I hope to keep this up.

 Nyt kun olen pistellyt näitä kahta työtä yhtä akaa, olen huomannut yhden asian. Tykkään DMC:n 25 count Magic Guide -kankaasta paljon enemmän kuin 28 count Luganasta. En inhoa tuota Luganaa, mutta DMC:lle on paljon helpompi pistellä. Lanka liukuu kankaan läpi helpommin, eikä lanka koskaan lipsahda kankaan langan alle, kuten joskus Luganan kanssa käy. Olen siis päättänyt, että tästä lähtien käytän DMC:tä, ellei työ vaadi jokin muun väristä kuin valkoista kangasta. Minulla on kyllä vielä Luganaa pala jäljellä Christmas Presencen jälkeenkin. Käytän sen, jos teen vielä jonkin jättisuuren työn. (Olen ajatellut Aimee Stewartin World Travel Bookshelfia, jossa on 750 x 542 pistoa.)

I have noticed one thing now that I'm stitching on two different fabrics at the same time. I much prefer the 25 count DMC Magic Guide to 28 count Lugana. I don't hate the Lugana, but DMC is so much easier. The floss glides through the DMC fabric more smoothly and my floss never slips underneath the fabric threads as it sometime does with Lugana. So I have made a decision. For the future projects that don't require some other than white fabric I'll be using DMC. I do have a piece of Lugana left after Christmas Presence, and I'll use that if I do another huge project. ( I have my eyes on Aimee Stewart's World Travel Bookshelf which is 750 x 542 stitches.)

Mini Yours Faithfully 7. viikko / week 7

Olen saanut hyvin tehtyä Mini Yours Faithfullya. Keskimäärin yli 300 pistoa päivässä. Toinen sivukin on jo melkein valmis. Teen sen varmaan loppuun tänään.


I've been keeping up with Mini Yours Faithfully. On average over 300 stitches a day. The second page is almost done. I'll probably finish it tonight.

Laitoin eilen uuteen kehykseeni Christmas Presencen kiinni ja sain tehtyäkin sitä yli 100 pistoa. Yritän saada sitäkin pisteltyä aina välillä, jotta sekin edistyisi. Teen tuota toista työtä 25 countille ja tätä 28 countille. Tuon 25 jälkeen tämän pistot tuntuivat tosi pieniltä.

I attached my Christmas Presence on the new frame yesterday and managed to do over 100 stitches on it. I'll try to stitch it once in while so it I could make some progress on it as well. I'm stitching the other one on 25 count and this one on 28 count. After the 25 these stitches seem so tiny.

Christmas Presence 10. viikko / week 10

Sain viimein kolmannen sivun tehtyä Christmas Presencesta. Nyt jätänkin sen joksikin aikaa odottelemaan, koska aloitin pistelemään myös Mini Sunflowersia. Vuorottelen nyt näiden kahden työn välillä.

 I finally finished the third page of Christmas Presence. Now I'll let it rest for a while because I started to stitch Mini Sunflowers. I'm going to rotate between these two from now on.

 Cross Stitch Heavenista tuli taas paketti. Tilasin lisää lankoja, DMC:n 25 count Magic Guide -kangasta, Kreinik-lankaa (tulevaisuuden projektia varten) ja kaksi vesiliukoista kangastussia (sininen ja valkoinen). Minun oli kyllä tarkoitus tilata itsestään haihtuva kangastussi, joka oli vaaleanpunainen. Tilasin epähuomiossa tuon vesiliukoisen sinisen, mutta enköhän pärjää senkin kanssa.

I received another package from Cross Stitch Heaven. I ordered more thread, DMC's 25 count Magic Guide fabric, Kreikik thread (for a future project) and two water erasable fabric markers (blue and white). I was supposed to order the pink air erasable marker instead of the water erasable blue one, but I think I'll manage just fine with it as well.

Tässä siis kuva Mini Sunflowersista yhden päivän pistelyn jälkeen. On kivaa vaihtelun vuoksi tehdä tällaista vaaleampaa työtä. Tuo Christmas Presence kun on ollut niin kovin tumma.

Here's a picture of Mini Sunflowers after one day of stitching. It's nice to stitch a lighter coloured piece for a change. Christmas Presence has been so dark.

Christmas Presence 9. viikko / week 9

Tällä viikolla en saanut paljoa aikaiseksi verrattuna pariin edelliseen viikkoon. Onnistuin tekemään vain 1223 pistoa eli alle 200 päivässä. Tällä viikolla pitäisi tulla kangas ja loput langat Mini Sunflowersia varten, joten alan varmaan vuorottelemaan sen ja Christmas Presencen kanssa.

This week I didn't get much done compared to the past few weeks. I only managed to do 1223 stitches. That's under 200 a day. This week I should receive fabric and the missing threads for Mini Sunflowers. I think that I'll start to rotate between that one and Christmas Presence.

Christmas Presence 8. viikko / week 8

Tällä viikolla olin vähän hitaampi ja tein vain 1809 pistoa. Suomi - USA jääkiekkopelin aikana jouduin 10 x 10 ruutuun, jossa oli paljon eri värejä. Sain tehtyä koko pelin aikana vain vähän yli 100 pistoa. Nyt noita parkkeerattuja lankoja alkaa olla jo aikamoinen määrä. Tavallaan se on hyvä, koska se vähentää pääteltävien lankojen määrää, mutta toisaalta ne ovat vähän tiellä.

This week I was a bit slower and only made 1809 stitches. During Finland - USA hockey game I had to stitch a 10 x 10 grid that was very confetti rich. I managed to do only a little over 100 stitches during the entire game. On one hand it's good because you don't have to tuck in so many thread ends. On the other they are kind of in the way.

Christmas Presence 7. viikko / week 7

Tällä viikolla sain tehtyä huimat 2857 pistoa, eli vähän yli 400 per päivä. Kaksi ohjesivua on jo mennyt, kolmas on aluillaan. Nyt on niskat sitten niin jumissa, että pää on kipeä. Täytynee vähän hidastaa tahtia.

This week I managed to do 2857 stitches, which is a little over 400 a day. Two pages down and the third one is on the way. Now my neck is so stiff that I have a headache. I think I'll need to slow down a bit.

Christmas Presence 6. viikko / week 6

Tällä viikolla onnistuin tekemään enemmän kuin 200 pistoa päivässä. Keskiarvo oli noin 357. Jee!

This week I managed to do more than 200 stitches a day. The average was about 357. Yay!

Christmas Presence 5. viikko / week 5

Ensimmäinen sivu on viimein valmis. Nyt pistoja on tehty 6 000 eli 2,49 % koko työstä.
Vielä on pitkä matka jäljellä. En edelleenkään saa tehtyä kuin noin 200 pistoa päivässä. Pitäisi yrittää nostaa se vähintään 300 pistoon.

The first page is finally done. Now I have made 6 000 stitches, that is 2,49% of the entire pattern. There's still a long way to go. I still can't manage to do more than 200 stitches a day. I'll have to try to raise it to 300.

Christmas Presence 4. viikko / week 4

Q-snap kehys saapui alkuviikosta ja olen nyt käyttänyt sitä. Pidän siitä kyllä enemmän kuin aiemmin käyttämästäni puukehyksestä. Se on pienempi ja kevyempi, ja kankaan saa siihen tiukaksi myös sivuista. Tuo tilaamani suojakangas on muuten hyvä, mutta tässä työssäni on kangasta niin paljon, ettei se tahdo mahtua tuon alle kokonaan.

The Q-snap frame arrived earlier this week and I have been using it since. I like it more than the wooden scroll frame. It's smaller, lighter and it keeps also the sides of the the fabric tight. The fabric cover is very practical except that the stitching fabric piece is so large, it doesn't fit inside the cover completely.

Olen kyllä ihan hirveän hidas. En saa tehtyä päivässä juuri enempää kuin 200 pistoa. Ei siinä muuten mitään, mutta kun tällä vauhdilla tämän työn valmiiksi saaminen kestää vielä yli kolme vuotta. Alla olevassa kuvassa pistoja tehty 4 500 eli 1,87%.

I'm so terribly slow. I can't manage much more than 200 stitches a day. At this rate it will take me over three years to finish this piece. In this picture there are 4 500 stitches, that is 1,87%.

 Heaven and Earth Designsilla oli tässä 35% alennus kaikista malleista, joten ostin sitten yhden minimallin. Se on Marianne Broomen Mini Sunflowers. Vaikka sitä tuolla sivustolla sanotaankin miniksi, niin on siinä silti 200 x 158 pistoa. Yhteensä siis 31 600.

Heaven and Earth Designs had a sale for 35% off of all patterns, so I bought one mini stitch pattern: It's Mini Sunflowers by Marianne Broome. Even though HAED calls it a mini, it still has 200 x 158 stitches, altogether 31 600.

Christmas Presence 3. viikko / week 3

Päätin hankkia itselleni Q-snap -kirjontakehyksen tätä ja myöhempiä isoja projekteja varten. Kyselin Facebookin Heaven and Earth Designs Group -ryhmässä kokemuksia niistä ja vastausten perusteella tulin siihen tulokseen, että paras koko voisi olla 11 x 17 tuumaa eli 28 x 43 senttiä. Ikävä kyllä en löytänyt tuota kokoa myynnissä Suomessa, joten tilasin sen ja sen ympärille tulevan kirjontakangasta suojaavan kangassuojan Englannista Cross Stitch Heaven -verkkokaupasta. Nyt vain odotellaan paketin saapumista.

I have decided to buy myself a Q-snap frame for this project, and other large projects in the future. I asked in Facebook's Heaven and Earth Designs Group #experiences. After reading the answers I came to the conclusion that the best size might be 11 x 17 inches (28 x 43 cm). Unfortunately I couldn't find that size n Finland so I ordered it and a fabric cover for it from Cross Stitch Heaven web store in England. Now I'm waiting for the package to arrive.

Olen onnistunut muuten jo saamaan aikaiseksi kolme virhettä tässä työssä. Yhden niistä voi korjata. Siitä puuttuu vain puolet pistosta. Kahta muuta en voi korjata, koska pistojen purkaminen on tässä työssä käytännössä mahdotonta. Nyt siis minulla on kahdessa kohdassa vääränväriset pistot. Ei niitä tosin onneksi huomaa. Ne ovat kohdissa, joissa on paljon tummaa väriä.

By the way, I have managed to make three mistakes already in this piece. One of them I can fix. It's just missing one half of the cross stitch. The other two I unfortunately cannot fix, because it's virtually impossible to unravel the stitches. Now there are two places where I have used wrong thread. Luckily, you can't really see them. They are in places which are really dark coloured.

Christmas Presence 2. viikko / week 2

Tämän verran olen nyt viikossa saanut tehtyä lisää. Hidasta on. Tämä ensimmäinen sivu on melkoista sillisalaattia. Onneksi joissain tulevissa sivuissa on kohtia, joissa samaa väriä käytetään paljon. Luulisi niiden sujuvan nopeammin.

Here's how much progress I have made in one week. It's going slowly. This first page is filled with confetti stitching. Luckily some of the other pages have sections where one colour is used a lot. Stitching those should be faster.

Palasin itse asiassa sittenkin kirjontakehyksen käyttöön ja vaihdoin myös pistelytapaani, kaikki kiitos videon, jonka linkki löytyy tuosta alta. Viimeinkin siis löysin itselleni sopivan "parking"-tyylin. En tiedä, mitä tuo on suomeksi. Siinä siis lanka jätetään roikkumaan kohtaan, johon seuraava sen värinen pisto tulisi. Kirjon siis nyt 10 x 10 ruutua kerrallaan, kun aiemmin kirjoin kerralla 20 ruutua x yhden sivun leveys.

I actually returned to my embroidery frame and I also changed the way I stitch. It's all thanks to the video below. I finally found a parking style that fits me. Now I stitch 10 x 10 grid at a time. Previously I stitched 20 x the width of the page.

Valtava HAED-projekti - Enormous HAED project

Ostin viisi vuotta sitten Heaven and Earth Designsilta (HAED) kirjontamallin. Kyseessä on Myles Pinkneyn Christmas Presence. Mallin koko on 450 x 535 pistoa. Yhteensä pistoja on siis 240 750. Five years ago I bought a cross-stitch pattern from Heaven and Earth Designsilta (HAED). It's Myles Pinkney's Christmas Precence. It has 450 x 535 stitches, 240 750 altogether. Not a small task. There are also 90 different floss colors. You can see a picture of it in the link above.

Sain viimein joskus pari vuotta sitten ostettua siihen kankaan, puuttuvat langat ja kirjontakehyksen. Kankaaksi valitsin 28 count Luganan, jotta työn lopullisesta koosta tulisi mahdollisimman pieni. Kirjon sitä yhdellä säikeellä yhden kankaan langan yli.

A couple of years ago I finally bought the fabric, missing floss and a stitching frame. The fabric I chose to use is 28 count Lugana, so as to make the finished piece as small as possible. I'm working one strand of floss over one thread of fabric.

Tulin siihen tulokseen, että kirjontakehys ei kuitenkaan sovi minulle. Minun on nähtävä, mitä kankaan takanakin tapahtuu, tai langat ovat ihan solmussa. Työn kääntely ei tosin ole helppoa niin ison kankaan kanssa.

I have come to the conclusion that the frame does not work for me. I have see what's going on behind the fabric as well. Otherwise the floss get tangled.

Aloitin kirjonnan silloin pari vuotta sitten. En päässyt juuri alkua pidemmälle, kun tuli pitkä tauko. Nyt vasta olen alkanut jatkamaan sitä. Ajattelin tänne laittaa kuvia edistymisestäni vaikka viikon tai kahden välein, niin ehkä saan tehtyäkin sitä.

Even though I started to work on this a couple of years ago, I didn't get very far. Only just now I have started to work on it again. I thought I could post pictures of my progress here every week or every couple of weeks. Maybe that way I'll finally be able to make some real progress.
